Social Monitoring, Information and Community Development Partnership (TEIT)
Since the 1990s, MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant has installed background radiation measuring and display equipment in the municipalities of the TEIT with the aim of allaying the fears of people living near the plant about radiation and building confidence in the safe operation of MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The display systems were placed in prominent locations in the settlements, so that the population can be kept informed about the background radiation levels in their area. The former measuring systems, which were installed more than 20 years ago, have become unreliable and needed to be replaced.
In 2018, Isotoptech Zrt. carried out the construction and installation of the measuring stations. Four TEIT municipalities continued to require the operation of the measuring and display system.
The RS04L/232 gamma probe (measurement range 10 nSv/h – 50 mSv/h; energy range 40 keV – 3 MeV), manufactured by BITT Technology GmbH, was used for the measurement of background radiation. Measuring stations of different configurations were installed at the 4 sites according to the preliminary requirements.
