Noble gas sample types
Sample types and the required minimum sample quantities:
- Determination of the tritium concentration in water samples (or organic matter) by the 3He method. Required sample volume: there is no theoretical minimum volume, but it is recommended to sample at least 1-3 litres of water.
- Determination of dissolved noble gas concentrations (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe and 3He/4He) in water samples- for determination of the sublimation temperature, dissolved helium origin and for 3H/3He age determination. Required sample volume: 20-40 ml of water, for sampling use copper tube sampler.
- 3H/3He age determination of water samples: involves the tritium measurement of the water sample and the determination of dissolved noble gases (mainly He and Ne), from which the 3H/3He age can be calculated.
- Determination of noble gas concentrations in gas samples: a few millilitres are required.
- Determination of concentrations of noble gasesin fluid inclusions in rocks: a few grams are required.
The noble gas measuerements can be ordered with the necessary special samplers (copper tubes) or in combination with sampling, please contact us.
Sample submission
The following table shows the recommended minimum sample quantities required per sample type. These sample quantities refer to dry samples. Please send us the optimum sample quantity, the conditions for returning unused samples can be found in the GTC.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!
To send samples, please use the following address and indicate the contact person and the sender on the package:
HEKAL AMS Lab, Isotoptech Zrt.
Bem tér 18/c, Debrecen 4026, Hungary
Please take care to pack the samples carefully. Preferably send dry samples. Prevent fungal growth and mould on the samples. All samples should be individually identified and named.
